Who hasn't heard about the dangers of smoking, obesity, and substance abuse? But no matter how much you know in your heart that you shouldn't have that drink, smoke that cigarette, or eat that chocolate, you know just as well that you will. There is something powerful about a craving. It's not that we're poorly informed, it's that we can't stop ourselves. Our biology--our craving mechanism--has us standing before a firing squad, shouting, Come on already, shoot! Yefim Shubentsov left the Soviet Union at age 40 to find freedom in the United States. Ironically, he came to realize that "many people in the free world are in a kind of prison as well": our addictions and cravings. Our cravings are not carved in stone because of our emotional histories, he says--they are under the control of our "creativity, common sense, and cleverness," tempered with patience and endurance. He describes a healing energy force he
REVIEW :
The cover looks nice (other than the sly attempt at stealing the title words from other titles from ESRI Press such as the "Getting to Know" series) and looked like it might be a good text. And also a vast portion of the literature is scattered throughout so many books. It is important to be reminded that new ideas are a product of one's historical and cultural context. bummer.. Best Wishes in becoming SMOKE FREE!!!. Another good point was one women questions what was the pain of her drinking.. This book appears to be written by a twelve year old. I enjoyed reading this book. If you are a NASCAR fan and a stat junky, this is the perfect book. I had wanted to quit for years and found it virtually impossible. Some of the topologies are presented for the first time in the English language. Wish I could afford one of the cars in these pictures!. I am not chemically addictive. For this reason
